Celebrating Successes in NYS: Tri-County Cross-System Partnership – Greene, Columbia, and Rensselaer
Questar III BOCES District Superintendent Dr. James N. Baldwin speaks to more than 80 guests about the importance of collaboration for students
On July 17th, there was a very productive tri-county meeting of Greene, Columbia, and Rensselaer Counties at Catskill High School, which included representation from schools, the departments of social services in all three counties, and Questar III BOCES representatives.
This meeting was a follow-up to the Kick-Off of the Tri-County Public Education and Department of Social Services Partnership, which was held on May 23rd at Questar III BOCES. The driving force for the meeting was addressing the low graduation rate among students needing special education supports within the region. Additional dialogue included conversations about how this outcome ties into poverty, mental health, family issues, and community services.
Kathy Alonge-Coons (Rensselaer County), Margaret Kennedy (Columbia County), and Maggie Graham (Greene County) had a wonderful opportunity to speak about their communities’ Systems of Care work and the NYS Success Initiative. They also discussed how their work with Dr. Mansoor Kazi, lead evaluator for NYS Success, might support this effort. They highlighted the opportunity to use existing local data to create baseline and outcome progress measures. This exciting partnership could serve as a pilot and learning opportunity for other regions and cross-system leadership across our state!
